This
past December 4th through the 8th the Generations team traveled to
Oahu, Hawaii to shoot the first segment of GENERATIONS. What an
unbelievable shoot! Our Pearl Harbor Attack veteran Herbert Weatherwax
(90), otherwise known as "Uncle Herb", lives near his son Clarence and
his grandson Mac on the east side of the island of Oahu. Herb was
drafted into the United States Army six months prior to the attack on
Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the 198th Infantry Regiment at
Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, Hawaii. Herb witnessed the destruction
at Pearl Harbor and also at Wheeler Field.
Our
team followed Herb, Clarence, and Mac as they attended the Pearl Harbor
Day 66th Anniversary Commemoration at Kilo Pier. We also visited the
Arizona Memorial, Schofield Barracks where Herb was stationed,
Punchbowl Cemetery where many fallen veterans are now buried, and Le
Jardin Academy where Herb spoke to young schoolchildren about his
experiences the day of the attack.
We feel
honored to have been invited into the lives of this family. Herb is now
retired. Clarence runs his father's electric company, and Mac will
report to Coast Guard training this February.
We
are now in post-production for the Pearl Harbor segment and are
planning our trip to Normandy this June. We are still in need of
funding for the rest of the GENERATIONS project, and we are also
looking for veterans for the Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, and Iwo
Jima trips. We appreciate your continued support in this project. Visit Pearl Harbor under Sites for more updates and photos. |
